Drumroll, please… On Monday, April 9, Known & Renowned will be moving to WordPress! I’ve been working on the new site for a while now, and it’s finally up to par. Please join me for the launch and let me know what you think!
Non-fiction book: The Cross-Centered Life— C.J. Mahaney. This is a great little book that reminds us to be focused on the gospel. Timely reading for Easter weekend to keep our eyes on what really matters.
Novel: Follow My Leader by James Garfield. I have two copies of this book: one tattered, yellowed copy passed down as one of my mom’s favorite childhood books, and a newer edition that is well-worn from my own reading as a kid. This was my favorite book growing up. A boy is blinded by a firecracker and has to adjust to a life of darkness. His friendship with his guide dog, among other factors, help him understand that he can lead a full life even without his sight. It’s a heartwarming tale of hope and overcoming obstacles, good for readers of all ages.
Movie: Freedom Writers. If you haven’t seen this movie, you’re missing out. It’s gritty, tear-jerking, and hope-filled all at the same time. A determined teacher in LA inspires a group of students to change their lives and futures through ending discrimination and embracing education. Maybe it doesn’t sound edgy, but it is. For fans of Stand and Deliver.
Website: ACT:S. I just had interview for an internship with these guys, but this isn’t (just) brown-nosing. As the activism branch of World Vision, their site serves as a great tool to promote awareness for justice and engage with a community of people creatively pursuing activism. They have a ton of great resources and challenges, as well as a place to sharing inspiring stories.
Tweeter: Red House Baptist. My church finally got a Twitter! I just might know the mystery person who runs it… and I’ll make sure he posts good stuff (he knows I can blackmail him with pictures like this). But seriously, follow for verses, announcements, and other inspiring content.
Deal: You can get Crazy Love, Erasing Hell, and Forgotten God by Francis Chan for Kindle or Kindle for PC all FREE on Amazon. I don’t know how long this will last, so download them soon!
Song/Artist: Arise, My Love— Newsong. While this song might have become cliché, it is still beautiful— for so many reasons, and perfect for remembering what we are celebrating this weekend.
Ministry/Non-Profit: World Help. World Help is a missions organization that focuses on changing the world through child advocacy, humanitarian aid, Bible distribution, and church planting. I was introduced to them last Sunday when their amazing Children of the World international children’s choir performed at my church (watch the video on the COTW page— it will warm your heart).
Video: Keep Your Eyes Open— Needtobreathe. This way cool, innovative music video is for my favorite track on my favorite band’s latest album, The Reckoning.
Bible Passage: 1 Corinthians 15:14-19. If Christ is not risen, our faith is worthless… life is worthless. But praise God— he is risen!
